THE RESULTS ARE IN ~ 3-WAY TIE! June 10, 2008

Richard Edwards of the NPCA swept the Hot Rod Nationals running a 7.17, 7.19 and a 7.16 in the final. His reaction times ranged from a .033 to a -.010 (the other guy fouled out worse) and a .024 in his final round. On paper, Richard was absolutely unbeatable this past weekend and deadly consistent. Larry Dixon ran closest to the number with a 7.09 at 194.58 mph but Richard caught him sleeping at the wheel and put Dixon on the trailer in the first round!

On the other side of the country, using race results from Fremont Reunion which was run May 10, Mike Cross knocked out everyone including Jason Richey who scored a perfect reaction time extra point. Although round by round details are missing we do have the round results giving us the overall standings. Richey making it to the final round added in with his bonus for a perfect reaction time makes our race for #1 a 3~Way Tie!

Lets take a look at the events and organizations, I believe in comparing apples to apples! 7.0 Pro had 16 cars for a 16 car field with entrants traveling in from Southern and Central California. Cross and Richey had to run an additional round over NPCA finalists Edwards and Damron. NPCA had 8 cars for an 8 car field but the entrants came from 5 different states! NPCA lost the chance for some perfect reaction times and running dead on the number due to a complete rain out on the second day of qualifying. 7.0 Pro has a total of three events in the bag, NPCA is just getting started.

Based on the current points standings and comparable performance I would like to see Mike Cross head to head with Richard Edwards! Rich is deadly consistent and Mike is known for legging out his FED and dipping into the 6s. Would Rich push Mike out the back door? Both competitors have close reaction times but we haven't seen Edwards break out! Who would you like to see in a head to head race? Email Editor and tell me who you think would take home the title if they met head to head. NPCA's next points meet is September 5-7, in the meantime lets have some fun with Fantasy Match Races! Check in often to find out more!

Congratulations to both event winners, Richard Edwards and Mike Cross. With our three way tie EACH of the points leaders has won $25.00, a Vintage Fuel t-shirt, 12 oz CMW Oil Engine Assembly Lube, and 12 oz CMW Engine Oil Additive! Congratulations to Richard, Mike, and Jason for being the first point leaders in the Vintage Fuel 7 Second Fantasy Racing Association.

Turning up the heat and evening the playing field! June 5, 2008

Right now 7.0 Pro has two races in the bank and NPCA is about to run their first at the same time 7.0 Pro is on their third. To make the points race fair, relevant and exciting we will accumulate points and winners based by comparing event by event. 7.0 Pro's first race was Funny Car Fever in April therefore we will use the data from that event compared to NPCA this weekend as it is NPCA's first race. Point standings will be updated as each organization completes an equal number of races as the other.

This weekend Vintage Fuel along with CMW Oil will be awarding the Fantasy points leader from 7.0 Pro and from NPCA with a prize package that includes a CMW Oil ball cap, 12oz bottle of Engine Oil Additive, 12oz bottle of Assembly Lube, a Vintage Fuel t-shirt, and a $25.00 Visa gift card that may be used as the winner pleases.

As a reminder -

1 point to each competitor that brings their racecar – even if gremlins prevent it from making a pass
1 point to racers eliminated in the first round
2 points to racers eliminated in the second round
3 points to racers eliminated in the third round
4 points to runner up
5 points to the winner
3 points for running 7.00
1 point for a perfect reaction time

Good luck and check back Monday to see who wins the first prize as well as the updated point standings!

7 Second Fantasy Racing

Two rising stars in the vintage drag racing community are Mike Cross’s 7.0 Pro racing association based in Southern California and the Nostalgia Pro Comp Association lead by Troy Coker out of Indiana. Both organizations have shown continual growth and the ability to put on entertaining as well as highly competitive events. The NPCA has an array of classes but the feature cars are running 6.50 and 7.00 indexes while the 7.0 organization is exclusive to 7.00. On an even more interesting note, both Mike Cross and Troy Coker run 7.0 front engine dragsters (although Coker’s is not yet complete ~ last I heard).

For the past three years both organizations have been focused on securing new tracks, growing their car count as well as spectator attendance, sponsors, and fine tuning basic operations. Coming into 2008 the impressive 21+ cars at 7.0 Pro’s season opener and the increased involvement between NPCA and Goodguys has separated these two organizations from the pack demonstrating their status as leaders in the vintage drag racing community! What also separates these racers is the commitment to the sport of vintage drag racing. The goal is a quality show with beautiful, fast cars in a warm and welcoming environment.

After having attended events run by both organizations it dawned on me how impressive and exciting it would be to see the West Coast participants of the 7.0 Pro run the Midwest/East Coast Participants of the NPCA. Imagine this…putting to rest the old adage…one being better than the other. How about we run West Coast cars versus Midwest or East Coast cars to find the superior of the two? Who would come out on top? Where are the better drivers? Tuners? Who has what it takes to run 7 seconds!

At one point it was rumored that Troy and Mike would meet somewhere in the middle of the country to have this showdown but neither of their schedules has such an event listed. So, I am going to dive into the fantasy racing realm to see which teams are the real deal in a fantasy East/Midwest versus West series. Following each 7.0 Pro and NPCA event the round by round action will be analyzed and points assigned based upon performance and attendance. We will be comparing 6 points events from each organization, match races not included. I will then post the new points standings with a brief analysis of who did what. Of course I encourage reader input so always feel free to email EDITOR to throw in your two cents too!

Here is how points will be awarded for Vintage Fuel’s 7 Second Fantasy Racing Association*:
1 point to each competitor that brings their racecar – even if gremlins prevent it from making a pass
1 point to racers eliminated in the first round
2 points to racers eliminated in the second round
3 points to runner up
5 points to the winner
3 points for running 7.00
1 point for a perfect reaction time

Prizes will be awarded to points leaders at specified intervals throughout the Fantasy Racing Promotion. Each prize will be announced along with the winner.

Once NPCA and 7.0 Pro see their distant opposition maybe we can get a live and in person showdown! I am thinking Salt Lake City, Kansas, Boise?????

As of May 15, 2008 7.0 Pro has two events in the bag with Lenny Hain winning at Funny Car Fever (5 points) and Mike Cross taking the win at the Fremont Reunion (5 points), John Cofer was runner up (3 points) at Funny Car Fever and Jason Richie runner up (3 points) at Fremont Reunion. Richie snagged the 1 point bonus for a perfect reaction time while Lennie got the 3 point bonus for running the number at Funny Car Fever. Mike Salinas earned 3 points for his 7.005 at Fremont Reunion. We are awaiting further round by round results to give you the full point’s breakdown. Once the details are received we will issue the first prize package.

NPCA had a test and tune season opener in Muncie but weather and low car count resulted in no news from the Midwest. At this time we have no points for our friends running NPCA; we just have to wait for their first event.

Here are the current point standings:
